Common Questions

The answers
straight up.

Eight real questions from Phoenix owners researching their first serious detail. Direct answers — no filler.

01

How much does ceramic coating cost in Phoenix?

Ceramic coating at Blackline starts at $1,100 for a standard sedan and ranges to $2,400 or more for larger vehicles or those requiring extensive paint correction. The primary cost driver is correction time — a heavily swirled vehicle needs more polish passes before the coating goes on. We measure paint thickness at intake and provide a firm quote before any work begins.

02

What is paint decontamination and why is it required before a detail?

Paint decontamination removes bonded contamination that a hand wash cannot lift — iron fallout from brake dust, industrial particles, and rail dust that embed in your clearcoat. We treat every vehicle with a pH-neutral iron fallout remover followed by clay bar treatment on the full paint surface. This step is included in every Blackline package and is required before any polishing or coating work begins, because polishing over contamination damages the paint.

03

Can you remove swirl marks and scratches from black paint?

Yes. Black paint reveals swirl marks more visibly than any other color due to its depth, but it also responds well to machine polishing. A single-stage correction removes 60–70% of surface defects. Our two-stage process — using a cutting compound followed by a finishing polish — reaches 80–90% or better, depending on paint hardness and defect depth. We photograph and document results panel by panel so you can see exactly what changed.

04

How long does a ceramic coating last?

Our Pro Ceramic Coating uses a 9H-rated professional product and is backed by a 2-year warranty. With proper maintenance — two-bucket hand washes, no automatic car washes, and an annual detail inspection — the coating routinely performs well beyond that window. The coating bonds to the clearcoat and doesn't wear off like wax or sealant; it degrades gradually over years rather than months.

05

How long will my vehicle be at your shop?

Wash & Protect takes 4–6 hours for a standard sedan. Paint Correction jobs run 8–14 hours and sometimes require two days for larger vehicles or severe oxidation. Ceramic Coating projects are scheduled over 2–3 days — the coating itself applies in a few hours, but the 48-hour curing period happens in our climate-controlled bay before you pick the vehicle up. We confirm your pickup window at drop-off and call when we're within one hour of completion.

06

Do you work on exotic or high-value vehicles?

Yes — that's what the Blackline bay was built for. We work on Ferraris, Porsches, Lamborghinis, and daily drivers with the same documented process. Every vehicle receives paint thickness measurements before we touch it. We don't use abrasives on any panel we haven't read and documented first, and we stop and discuss if a panel reads thin before proceeding.

07

What's the difference between a spray sealant and ceramic coating?

A spray sealant is a polymer-based surface protectant that lasts 90–120 days. It's fast, affordable, and good for maintained daily drivers who wash regularly. Ceramic coating is a permanent inorganic silica compound that bonds to the clearcoat, creates genuine hydrophobic repulsion, increases gloss depth measurably, and resists bird strikes, tree sap, and UV degradation at a level waxes and sealants cannot match. Sealant is maintenance protection. Ceramic is a structural upgrade to the surface.

08

How do I maintain a ceramic-coated vehicle?

Two-bucket hand washing is the required method — no tunnel washes, no brushes, no automated wash equipment. Use a pH-neutral soap (no wax-infused products, which interfere with the ceramic's hydrophobic performance). Rinse the vehicle cool, never in direct Phoenix sun. We provide a written maintenance schedule at pickup that covers washing, decontamination intervals, and when to schedule your annual inspection.
